Start Reading - Phonics Fun!

Playful learning is the heart of these successful beginning reading “classes”.

Level One
Children learn the phonic sounds of the alphabet and how letters work together to build words. They also start to read short words and sentences.

Level Two
The second level is geared towards children who already have started simple reading and writing.

Children love to learn. The magic of reading is at the heart of these small group classes and is the foundation for developing spelling, grammar and writing skills. Lessons are age-appropriate, enjoyable and instructional.
These lessons are designed especially for multi-lingual children whose primary education is in German. (Lessons also are available for children attending bi-lingual or English-speaking schools.)
As children’s skills and confidence in English reading and writing grows, so, too, does their motivation. Kids actually want to come to these English classes!

Enrichment and Tutoring
Children at Bi-lingual or English-speaking schools.

These lessons are designed for children attending English-speaking schools with English as either a native language or as a second or third language. The one-on-one teaching is especially helpful for children with ADD or ADHD.

Classes
Small classes are tailored to the needs of each group and the individual children. Students are grouped according to developmental and skill levels. Individual instruction and tutoring for all ages through secondary school and gymnasium also is available. British and American English are taught.

Obersee Bilingual Primary School

Obersee Bilingual School offers students the academic, artistic and practical life skills required to become part of a challenging multicultural and multilingual global society. Obersee Bilingual Prekindergarten

With years of experience behind it, our prekindergarten program encourages the social, emotional, physical, creative and cognitive development of children ages 2 through 4 years. Each day includes outdoor play in the nearby forest or playground, song, dance, circle-time, crafts, story-time, special language development groups and free play time. Special gymnastics activities and parachute games increase social and physical development opportunities while rounding out the fun of the week. Our proven educational strategy offers your child the social, cognitive and linguistic advantages of early bilingualism while awakening and nurturing their natural desire to learn. The program runs from 9:00 to 15:45 every day, with an option of before school care beginning at 7:30 and afterschool care until 18:00. Half-days are also available.

Within lovingly decorated and appointed rooms a devoted and well-educated team of caregivers gently guides children through a special daily program that includes free play indoors and out, visits to the forest, crafts, finger rhymes and songs in both languages. Kinderdance is a developmental dance, motor skill, gymnastic, music and fun fitness program, blended with academics, specifically designed for boys and girls ages 2 through to 8 years.

Kinderdance offers 4 different programs...

"Links to Literacy" classes are taught by Annelise Dohr, a fully qualified and experienced UK primary school and special needs teacher who has accreditation (EDK) to teach in Swiss primary schools. Classes are a serious place of learning, yet they also contain lively elements which children find motivating. Phonics, reading, writing, handwriting and spelling are all covered. A variety of resources commonly found in UK and international schools such as the Oxford Reading Tree and Jolly Phonics are utilised.

The overall aim of the literacy classes is to develop full fluency in the English Language competence of the pupils, thus keeping all their future educational options open in whatever country they may live in in the future. More specifically, the rationale and driving force behind the classroom experience is to develop a real love of reading and confidence in the children's own literacy skills.

Bringing Poetry Alive ~ Sing it, Speak it, Act it ~ What an adventure!

Poetry is an exciting and efficient way for children to learn about language. Professional choreographer and children's theater director, Robin Mueller will introduce children to rhythmic patterns that have evolved in the history of poetry and will provide drama activities which will invite children to enjoy these patterns without feeling intimidated. This is a rare opportunity for your child to have fun while learning valuable lessons about language and drama.

Ages: Teens and preteens
Starting date: Wednesday, September 21, 2005 (ten sessions with a break for the fall holidays)
Time: Wednesday afternoons from 16:00 to 17:30 starting in September.

About Robin Mueller:
Robin has done the choreography for various productions of English theatre groups in the Zurich area most recently for the production of ?Inside Out?. Robin has also directed children's theater (including ?Alice In Wonderland?) and will be scouting for talent in this class for her upcoming production of the ?Water Babies? which will be brought to stage in the spring of 2006.
