1st Sunday of every month : Free monthly meeting of the Geneva Area Pond Club in Nyon
On the first Sunday of every month, local pond owners meet informally from 2 to 6 p.m. (14:00-18:00) in each other's homes and gardens to discuss water gardening techniques. The August 4 meeting will be by the large koi pond in the beautiful garden of a club member in Genthod. The club's website at www.ponds.meetup.com/1 offers free membership with no obligation, and full details about the next month's meeting location and subjects of discussion. These casual get-togethers take place in the towns around Geneva, Vaud, and neighboring France. Visitors are always welcome with prior notice. Members freely share their excess goldfish, aquatic plants and pond equipment. Over snacks and drinks by the water lily ponds, rank amateurs planning their first pond discuss their options in French or English with serious experts having many ponds and years of experience. Topics include making ponds safe for children, eliminating and preventing algae, selecting and propagating aquatic plants, and feeding and breeding goldfish and koi. The website's Message Board section includes many informative articles about designing and constructing ponds, potting up aquatic and bog plants, creating trouble-free biological filters, protecting fish from herons, feeding fish with foods from your kitchen, winterizing your pond in autumn, and other interesting articles for ponders to ponder. For further information (and hundreds of free goldfish and pond plants), contact club leaders Suzanne and Peter at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
